Woman Hit, Killed By Car While Walking Dog In Virginia: Police

Police have identified the 57-year-old woman killed in Prince William County after being struck by a vehicle while walking her dog.

Officers were called to the area of Mapledale Drive near Miles Court in Woodbridge at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, where there was a reported crash involving a pedestrian.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, Maria Isabel Cardozo was walking her dog in the neighborhood when a 30-year-old driver left the roadway and drove onto the sidewalk, striking her.

Cardozo was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was uninjured, and the dog was later found near the woman's home, also not injured.

Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors for the driver. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
